One of our goals in life is to ensure that we stay nice and fit. To do this, a lot of us will spend hours in the gym, sculpting our bodies. However, you don’t need a gym membership to get fit and look good. There are plenty of sports you can play that will do an amazing job too. Not sure which sport you should try out? Have a look at my top three suggestions down below:
Hockey
If you’re looking for a sport that gets your heart rate pumping and sweat pouring down your face, then hockey is for you. Not a lot of people give it thought when they’re thinking about taking up a sport. It’s not one of the mainstream sports, but it’s so great. There’s a lot of ends to end action, and you get a good workout. Plus, there’s the added difficulty of carrying the hockey stick and swinging it about, that ties in some upper body as well as your legs getting sore. Now, I know some of you are probably concerned that there isn’t a hockey club/team close to you. Don’t worry, you can start your own team and join a local league. Get a few of your mates to join in, buy a lovely hockey kit, and find a league to join. There may not be a team close to where you live, but I bet you’ll find a league nearby.
Tennis
One of my absolute favourite sports is tennis. I think it’s great for so many different reasons, a lot of people underestimate this sport. Tennis combines great physical strength with a need for great mental ability. A tennis match is an intriguing battle between two physical specimens, often decided by who can last the longest. Endurance is a huge factor in tennis; you can bet you’ll get a good cardio workout when playing it. Plus, you have to do a lot of ball striking, your shoulders and arms will take a battering. If you play tennis, you’ll be getting a phenomenal workout, and see the benefits quite quickly. Similarly to hockey, you may not have a tennis club close to you. However, you may find some public courts that you can go to with a friend and have a nice long hit.
Rugby
When it comes to physically demanding sports, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one more demanding than rugby. It’s a brutal sport that takes two teams of fifteen players and makes them knock lumps into each other for eighty minutes. Rugby combines everything you need to stay fit; speed, strength, and endurance. Playing rugby will make you a lot stronger and get you to a high level of fitness. You have to be able to run around a lot and smash into other people. It’s a very tough sport, but it can do wonders for your fitness levels.
Mix up your fitness schedule and start playing more sports and spending less time in the gym. You’ll see your body improve while playing any of the three sports mentioned above.
