Get Serious About Good Health in 2017

Every day is a brand new opportunity to start fresh, and live a healthier life. But with the festive season right around the corner (and you know there are going to be get-togethers and parties with tons of food and drink) you can’t be blamed for wanting to put it off until the new year. With the party season done and dusted, the new year is a fantastic opportunity to kick start your health. With just a few weeks to go, now is a good time to start thinking about what you want to do when the time comes. Here are some points to consider if you want to get serious about health in 2017.

Do ‘Dry January.’

After a boozy December, chances are you won’t feel like doing much drinking over January anyway. But to secure it in your head, sign up to a challenge such as ‘Dry January’. You can help to raise a bit of money for charity, and it’s good for your health too. Generally keeping alcohol to a minimum is one of the best things you can do for your health. Having a few drinks on special occasions is fine. But if you’re in the habit of regularly going out drinking at the weekends or cracking open a beer each night after work, then it’s so worth knocking it on the head. Even if you’re below the recommended daily unit allowance of two units, having none at all is even better.

Stub Out The Cigarettes

Cigarettes have been shown to cause various cancers, they make you look older than you are, they’re bad for your teeth and are generally bad for health. Switching to ecigs is beneficial since you avoid the dangerous chemicals from the burning of cigarettes. Switching to vaping first can also make it easier to quit too.

Get Motivated With Working Out

To really stick with working out, past January and right through the rest of the year it has to be something you enjoy. There’s only so much motivation you’re going to have to put on your running shoes and go out jogging for example if you absolutely hate doing it. Instead take up a sport you enjoy, or go to a class that you look forward to doing. Join forces with someone else looking to boost their fitness and workout together. This means you have someone to motivate you when times get hard, and you can motivate them as well.

Pile The Good Stuff Onto Your Plate

As they say, abs are made in the kitchen. Without the right nutrients, your body simply won’t run to it’s maximum potential. Lots of fresh produce and whole grains along with some lean protein and low-fat dairy is a good plan for most people. Cut out the fatty, salty and sugary snacks you know aren’t good for you and instead, limit them to special occasions. Not only will this fuel your body for workouts but it will make you feel much lighter and more energised too.
