Lifestyle Help For Men: Why Am I So Tired All The Time?

You’re a guy in the prime of his life.  You love life – most of the time. You want to embrace it in all of it’s full on, fun filled, fabulous glory. You might be in a great relationship or wanting to start one.

You work hard. Maybe your want to start your own business, get on the property ladder or start a family.  After work you like to go for a run, hit the gym, go for a couple of drinks. You stay up at the weekend, go to the game and have a few beers.

On Sunday, you’ll grab your surfboard and head to the ocean and maybe catch a wave. Monday comes around. You’re wiped out.

What is it about leading a full life that can leave us feeling exhausted? Sometimes there seems as if there are not enough hours in the day, and you feel worn out and somehow heavy. You could be suffering from fatigue, and here are some of the possible causes.

How is your sleep?

It might not be enough to crash on a friends sofa rather than make your way home. Or it simply could be that your quality of sleep is not good enough. Most of us need around eight hours a night. That is good quality restful and restorative sleep. What are you sleeping on? Get a quality bed. Cut back on the caffeine and alcohol.

You are what you eat.

If you are grabbing a doughnut and a coffee on the way to work, you are going to suffer later.  Sugar and caffeine spikes are a sharp drug into the system. Sure you get a boost and a hit, but as night follows day, you’ll crash. If that slump is when you reach for the energy drink, then you’ve just added more fuel to the fire. That is more sugar and caffeine. Way to go. Eat a healthy breakfast, get a balanced diet. Understand what proteins and complex carbs can do for you.

How is your Iron?

Central to your red blood cells and their ability to carry oxygen around your body, iron is not to be taken lightly. You could also be suffering from Anaemia which is the body’s inability to absorb iron. You may be eating the right things but need to take a supplement. There are good supplements for every stage of your life.

Too much or too little exercise

All work and no play is not going to win you any friends, nor make your body feel any better. Moderate exercise is necessary, essential and even vital to feel alive.  Notice how much better you feel after a walk?  Put on your fitness gear and multiply that by at least thirty minutes aerobic exercise each day. Conversely if you are doing too much, you are not allowing yourself to recuperate and could well be a cause of your fatigue.  Give yourself a break, build in rest days.  Light some candles, go to a spa. Have a relaxing break.

The truth about fatigue is that any one of these cause could start the process, and they are the first places to go for an answer and a solution.  Unless you are simply doing too much then it is not normal to feel drained and tired most of the time.  A visit to your GP would be a good idea to isolate any deeper health issues.

You have every right to lead a full and colourful life. Just don’t expect too much of yourself and try not to burn the candle at both ends.  Look to what and how you are eating, get some rest and sleep well. Above all, love your rejuvenated life.
