Health & Fitness: The Importance of Muscle Recovery

Six Essentials To Take On Every Bike Ride

Allowing your muscles to recover is one of the most important factors in muscle growth. Here’s why it’s so important and what you should do to let your muscles recover correctly.

During Sleep is When Muscle Grows

Recovering properly means getting as much sleep as you can each night. You should try to get eight or nine hours per night. Not many people realise how important it is to sleep if you want to gain muscle mass. You shouldn’t underestimate the importance of it though because it could make all the difference.

Sleep is one of the most essential parts of the muscle building process. So, if you skip this step and deprive yourself of the required amount of sleep, you’ll end up wiping out the work you did in the gym. It’s a mistake many people make, but make sure you don’t.

Muscle Builds After Weight Training, Not During It

Recovery isn’t something that can simply help you gain muscle mass. During recovery is when your muscles grow. They don’t grow while you’re working out; during the workout is when you push your muscles and damage them. When you recover is the time in which the muscles rebuild themselves.

This is why it’s important not to work out too much. You should have a day of working out and then a day of rest. This is the best approach to take if you want to stay healthy and maximise your muscle mass. Remember, you can always rotate which muscles you work out too. This allows particular muscle groups extra time to recover.

Hydration Aids Recovery

Drinking the right amount of water is essential to health and exercise recovery. It’s important to keep hydration in mind and do your best to drink as much water as you need to. If you allow yourself to become dehydrated, your performance levels will drop. And if you don’t drink water after working out, your recovery will not be completed as it should be.

Sports drinks that are filled with sugar and other additives are not good. You shouldn’t drink these simply because they taste good. Those additives can place more strain on your body. So, if you ask me, you should stick to drinking water. Nothing hydrates you better and aids recovery more than water. Having said that, there are supplements that can aid quick recovery too. Have a look at BCAA supplements to see how they work.

Staying Flexible Will Help Long-Term Gains

It’s impossible to work out effectively if you’re not flexible. That’s the only way to to stay free from pain and remain able to move around freely. This is very important, but it’s not easy to become flexible if you don’t know what you’re doing. The easiest way to become more flexible is to incorporate more stretching into your recovery.

It’s important to stretch your muscles before you start working out. But it’s also important to stretch after you’ve finished working out. Some people even decide to do some yoga once they’ve finished working out. This is a great way to aid your recovery and stop your muscles from stiffening up.

Muscle recovery is vital, so don’t be tempted to neglect it. Without proper recovery, your muscles won’t grow as you want them to.
