Everything a Man Should Know About Looking After His Car

How to look after your car

Being a man means knowing all about how your car works. But a lot of us don’t know nearly as much as we should about cars! Here are some basic things you should know about how to look after your car.

Clean it Inside as well as Out

Your car obviously needs to be kept as clean as possible. But this isn’t just about keeping it looking nice. It’s also about making sure the car functions exactly as it should do. Let’s start with the car’s exterior. You should wash it thoroughly at least once a month. It will make sure that you avoid dirt drying and causing damage to the car. You should also make sure you wax the car after it’s been washed.

So, now to discuss the inside of the car. Start with the car’s interiors. You should vacuum the seats and clear out any rubbish regularly. But cleaning the mechanical aspects of the car is an important thing to do as well. You should focus on keeping the engine bay clean at all times. You can buy spray products that you simply spray on and wash off. It’s simple and helps the engine function properly.

Know How to Check the Fluids

There are lots of different fluids that your car relies on to function properly. The first one to focus on is the oil. You just have to use the dipstick to check the levels are correct. And you’ll also need to change the oil. The general rule for oil changes is to change it at least every 3,000 miles that you drive. If you leave it longer than that, the oil won’t be clean. Changing the oil regularly will help the engine run for longer.

That’s not the only fluid you’ll need to know about though. There’s also the brake fluid, power steering fluid and coolant. You don’t need to use a mechanic to make sure these fluids are at the right levels though. It’s up to you to do the checks and to drain them and replace them whenever necessary. It doesn’t take much time or effort to do, and once you’ve done it once, you can do it a thousand times.

Tyres Need Your Attention

Your tyres are the part of the car that makes contact with the road, and that means they can take a lot of damage. You need to examine them regularly to make sure that they are in as good a condition as possible. Tyre pressure is something that a lot of people forget about, but keeping them topped up with air can help you avoid accidents on the road.

If you do suffer a puncture and the tyre eventually deflates, you should know what to do. Of course, it’s better if you can change the tyre by yourself, but this isn’t really necessary. The AA tyre fitting service is very good, so why not let them do the hard work for you? You can always pretend you did the work when your girlfriend asks!

If You Don’t Know What You’re Doing, At Least Sound Like You Do

The secret to making people think you know all about cars is sounding like you know what you’re talking about. Even if you’re not a car expert, you’ll earn some man points for saying the right thinks, so get your car knowledge straight!
